The Huntmaster was introduced in 1954 and was therefore only ever to be found in a swinging arm frame. It is often said that it is an Ariel with a BSA A10 engine, which is only partly true. All the engine internals such as crankshaft, valves and rocker gear are straight from the A10 but all the engine casings, including the head and barrel, are peculiar to the Ariel. Some casings are interchangeable but there are problems, such as; if an A10 head is fitted the Ariel exhaust pipes will not fit as the pipes go into the head on a BSA instead of the superior method of over the stub as on the Ariel, the BSA pipes fit the head of course but do not line up with the Ariel silencers.
