Why Are There So Many Women There?

“Why are there so many women there?” A genuine question asked by a customer on the telephone recently, and one I was happy to answer with “why shouldn’t there be?”. 98% of our customers are male, but nearly half our staff is female. Four manage our emails and phone calls, one manages ALL our stock and the other is me, and I sort out new parts and promotions. We don’t all ride motorbikes, but neither do all our male staff. To work at Drags you need to be a quick learner, have good customer service skills and above all, a sense of humour.

So this International Women’s Day, I want to thank Jackie for her constant good humour, Alice for her keen eye for detail, and our newest members Ann, Stacey and Shaylah for their patience and their desire to learn (and for fitting in to our mad little world). Oh, and myself for my resilience in starting in a male dominated arena in the 90s.
