Gasket sealants
Gasket sealants are a convenient way of replacing gaskets or sealing two meeting surfaces. There are a few different types to choose from, some come down to budget or preference, some are better for certain jobs than others.
Copper gasket sealant – rated to 300 degrees celcius and can be used to replace multiple sealing materials, but NOT recommended for replacing copper head gaskets
Universal Blue compound – high performance and non-setting (it remains flexible) and is resistant to a wide range of fluids including petrol
Silicone sealant – a more budget friendly option, replacing many gasket materials, but it is not resistant against fuel
Wellseal – the cats pyjamas of sealing compound, expensive but worth it. It replaces gasket material but is also good for sealing crankcases. Will set if left to go tacky, or remains flexible if pressed quickly.
