Switches, Wiring & Horn

All models used Lucas 6 volt electrical equipment throughout. The battery was charged by a crankshaft mounted alternator controlled by 2 stage switching incorporated in the light switch. Ignition was controlled by a crankshaft mounted cam operating Lucas 4CA type points set up that fired 2 HT coils mounted inside the frame.

On the early machines the ignition and light switches were soldered onto the loom and were therefore essentially part of the loom. Later models had sockets attached to the loom that plugged onto pins on the back of separate switches. Replacements for the early looms do not include the switches, either cut off the old switches and solder to the new loom or use the later loom if the switches are being replaced. Separate switch sockets are available with short lengths of wire attached for altering early looms to take the late switches; the early switches are not available.
