C35SD Dynamo 1949-58 SQ4

There are 2 versions of this dynamo, the early one has a small spring at the commutator end with a 1/2” bore, the later version has a much larger spring, about 1” in diameter. The armature, brush plate and commutator bearing are also different. The other change is when the timing chain was altered to an 8mm duplex one so that the dynamo speed could be increased; this of course, required new distributer drive gears. Initially the steel end cover was painted grey, it was only chromed from 1954 and yes, it can be removed without dismantling the primary chaincases but it is awkward.
