2 – Girder fork, OH & most W/NG
This section principally covers the wheel fitted to the W/NG with the 6 1/2” diameter brake that was originally fitted to the 1939-40 lightweight OG and OH 250 Colt, that in turn uses many parts originally fitted to the 1929-32 Colts as denoted by the ‘-29’ part numbers. A front wheel drive speedometer was always fitted. In early 1941 the brake drum material was changed to cast iron from sheet steel and early in 1942 the steel brake shoes were substituted for the light alloy ones, so that more Spitfires could be produced. All the Colts had 3.00×20” tyres whilst all the W/NG used 3.25×19”.
