Wheel Types 6, 7 & 16 – Fixed Rear, 1939-58 Half Width, Plunger & Swinging Arm

This wheel is based on the long running rigid version above, the main differences are the spindle and fittings and the use of ball instead of taper roller bearings. The 1953-54 models have a brake arm that points downwards, it is most important that the notes under the 5 stud QD wheel (type 8) are referred to as this arrangement can be dangerous when fitted to plunger frames.

1939-40 Bolt on sprocket and fulcrum adjuster from new, snail cam wheel adjusters, rod operated. Parts books list 40 spokes but actually 36.
1941-46 Plunger frames were not available.
1947-49 The fulcrum adjuster block is now bolted on instead of riveted. Mid 1948 season altered to 40 spokes.
1950-52 Conventional wheel adjusters fitted and washers under the spindle nuts.
1953-55 Cable operated

The sprocket bolt tab washers were deleted in 1954 only according to the parts book.
Type 6 is the version fitted to plunger frames 1939-54
Type 7 is the swinging arm version 1954-55
Type 16 is the version fitted to the swinging arm HT with speedometer drive in 1956-58.
