All Leaders and Arrows were fitted with the Amal ‘Monobloc’ carburettor, so called because the float chamber was cast in one with the mixing chamber unlike its predecessor, the type 6. All models used the 375 version with a 13/16” bore except the Sports Arrow, which used a 376 carburettor with a 1 1/16” bore. The bodies were made especially for Ariel without the usual thread on the intake end for a bell mouth or filter; instead a groove was cast in to the plain end for the unique strangler mechanism.

The 375 carburettors usually have an angled spray tube fitted (the brass piece inside the choke where the throttle needle goes), if it has a flat top, use the alternative main jet listed.

A major cause of poor running, particularly idling, is caused by wear between the body and the slide. This can be cured by boring the body out and fitting a sleeve to the slide which is then machined to suit the body. This is a long lasting solution due to the improved materials used. Fitting a new slide in a worn body is like fitting a new chain on old sprockets, a waste of time. We can do this work for you as well as generally reconditioning your carburettor. For the sleeving work we need to have the body, throttle slide, jet block. The prices for re-sleeving are found under RES169 or RES170 for a complete overhaul.
